5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Superb watch, 1.9.2008
Reviewer: Wil M. (, )

This brushed-stainless/black face Fallout is my second Reactor watch (the first, a black nitride Meltdown, I still own and enjoy) and I must say they have both been superb watches in every way. They're as finely built as jewels, but tough as hockey pucks. It's obvious in picking up and inspecting one of these that they're built to take a lot of punishment and keep functioning, and that's just what I wanted: a watch I could take anywhere to do anything and it would never let me down. I also needed first-rate night visibility (I do a lot of night activities such as astronomy and night flying), and these watches deliver -- the SuperLuminova material they use on the hands and markers is laid on thick and they will easily glow through the night. I really can't find much to fault in these watches. I have a Luminox Navy SEAL watch that is lighter (case made of carbon composite) and has tritium (H3) illumination, so has a more constant bright glow through the night. But the Luminox, while tough and functional, looks and feels plasticky, while the Reactors are watches I can drag through a desert activity one night and wear to a corporate business event the next morning. The only thing I wish is that Reactor would come up with some means of solar power instead of having to change batteries. I understand they've experimented with Seiko-like "kinetic" power, but I like solar better because it requires no moving parts and therefore fewer parts to wear out. Side note: Reactor Watch is and always has been an American company that makes it watches in the United States (using some key foreign components, but it's still an American-made watch by an American company). To me that's a real plus, not just from the buy-American point of view, but for the rapid turn-around in service (typically 48 hours total -- amazing speed, particularly compared to having to send a watch to Switzerland and back, even for such a simple thing as a battery change and cleaning). Overall, trulyl wonderful watches that have become my favorites (and I own a whole bunch of watches, to my wife's chagrin~). Grab one before they're "discovered" and the prices start to rise.
