Answer Racing caught the attention of many of us earlier this year by showing off its 2004 line of racing apparel. After setting the standard early in the motocross apparel industry, it seems like during the past few years they’ve taken a back seat to the competition. But their all-new line up is the first shot at changing that.

Answer’s 2004 ASX gear (which is their top of the line brand), they have made remarkable changes in that product. ASX gear, you can tell how much more stylish and visually appealing it was than its predecessor. Not only did it look great, it felt great – as in light! They felt lighter than what you normally wear, which is certainly important during the last few laps of a long moto race or the last couple miles of a trail ride.

The ASX pants have a new “breathable” back panel with air mesh fabric so heat won’t get caught in the rear of the pant – a nice feature that you have not seen on other brands. Also the wider leg spandex (now 80mm) increases the amount of movement available and the dual stage knee protection guards help protect against the high temperatures associated with four-stroke exhaust pipes. The cool looking diamond jacquard ASX jersey features padded elbows and shoulders, side venting from arm to waist, and new micro-cuffing to help prevent our worst enemy – arm pump. The primary new feature of the ASX low ride glove is that it is produced precurved, and uses a micro-thin Clarino palm – all very comfortable.

After riding on a hot and humid day, one of the best things you can say about the Answer ASX line is that it feels like you’re wearing nothing. It’s very light yet has ample protection. The shoulder padding is so great that in a severe crash it may not stop a broken shoulder, but it will certainly help prevent bruises and scrapes. After seeing many of the top pro riders cut the cuffs of their jerseys, several of the gear companies, like ASX, have gone to micro cuffs, which are thought to reduce arm pump. Flexibility and lightness is number one of the pants – it truly helps in the hot afternoon sun. Finally the pre-curved, form-fitting glove had the perfect combination of comfort and protection. Besides all these features, the gear looked great together and the colors really stood out. But maybe the best feature for all of us in the prices.
