Top New MTB Gear

With summer fast approaching along with warmer weather, it’s the perfect time to bust out the mountain bike and hit the trails. Do you have a full set of proper MTB gear though? Check out some of the latest and greatest from top MTB/BMX brands.

Aircraft Carbon MIPS Helmet

Helmets are by far the most important piece of protective gear to own. For the ultimate in bike safety, look no further than the Aircraft Carbon MIPS Helmet by 100%. Featuring an aerospace Carbon/Kevlar composite shell, the Aircraft is exceptionally strong, yet lightweight. The Active Cooling System maximizes airflow with 25—that’s right—TWENTY-FIVE ventilation channels! You might forget you have a helmet on with all the air hitting your head!

The Aircraft also features MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System). MIPS is a helmet-integrated, low friction layer that moves upon impact. It’s designed to reduce rotational motion transferred to the brain from angled hits to the head. This enables the inner liner to shear 10-15mm of movement relative to the rest of the helmet at the moment of impact. Along with 2 shell sizes, 3 EPS sizes, and 4 different cheek pad options, the perfect fit is all but guaranteed.

Speedcraft AIR Sunglasses

100% has ushered in a new era of performance cycling eyewear. The Speedcraft AIR is here. The Speedcraft AIR is the only cycling eyewear in the world to feature the patented AC Systems breathing technology. Control exactly how much airflow you want with the combination of magnets on the nosepiece of the frame and magnetic adhesive nasal strips. A built-in dilator in the center of the lens allows the wearer to adjust how much air they’re getting on the fly. An expansive single-lens shield offers total 360° visibility for an unmatched field of vision. Add this to its color/clarity-enhancing HiPER lens tech and the HYDROILO scratch-resistant, oil/water repelling lens coating, and you’ve got crystal-clear vision (literally) as far as the eye can see.

Troy Lee Designs (TLD)

A2 Dropout Helmet

Troy Lee Designs is also getting in on the MIPS action with their brand-new A2 Dropout Helmet. Featuring the largest air intakes/exhaust ports of any TLD trail helmet, the Dropout is quite the comfortable wear. Dual density EPS/EPP liner (an industry first) gives impact energy management at both low and high crash speeds. This—along with breakaway visor screws—means this helmet protects just as well as it ventilates. An X-Static Pure Silver comfort liner inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria and features a moisture-wicking quick-dry material.

If you want to perform at your best, you’re going to need some performance clothing. That’s where the latest collaboration between TLD and Adidas comes in: The Adidas Ultra Jersey and the Ultra MTB Pants/Shorts.

TLD x Adidas Ultra MTB line

The Jersey features a 92% Polyester, 8% Elastane construction. Precision laser-cut ventilation holes line the hottest points of the garment and feature a moisture-wicking, quick dry material. Stay focused on the next section and not how sweaty you feel thanks to HeiQ® smart technological fabric. This fabric provides intelligent thermoregulation which is activated by high skin temperatures, preventing you from overheating. The Ultra MTB pants/shorts feature a 90% Nylon and 10% Spandex construction and offer all the same features of its jersey counterpart.

Royal Racing

Royal Racing – Race Glove

Royal Racing does one thing, and one thing really well—MTB gear. Their specialization, therefore, results in some of the best gear in the industry. The Race Glove comes from years of development and racing feedback. A pre-curved construction allows for a crease-free grip on the bars, meaning a more secure hold as a result. Royal has built these with a perforated palm material along with smart phone threads on the index and thumb. Offering the best combination of comfort and feel, take those trail-side selfies without needing to take anything off!

Royal Racing – Storm Jacket

The weather can’t always be warm and sunny, right? So for when it isn’t, check out the Storm Jacket, a fully waterproof mid-weight jacket. The Storm features a triple-layered 4-way stretch fabric, making any kind of position a comfortable one. This fabric is also breathable, maintaining the balance of heat management while keeping you dry. Waterproof external chest and hand pockets ensure there’s enough space for all your essentials to stay safe from wet weather. Cut for a riding position, the Storm also features a hood large enough to fit over a helmet, and can easily be adjusted with a single gloved hand. Perfect if you’re waiting for a run or in the midst of an intense downhill.

FLY Racing

FLY Racing – Super D Jersey

This company continues to dish out premium MTB gear. The Super D Jersey is a great go-to for ride wear, thanks to its just-right fit of being not too loose, nor too tight. Cut for a riding position, the jersey gives a little extra slack to the back half. A breathable V-neck and a hidden zipper pocket with an internal optics wipe give the Super D an edge over other jerseys. Polygiene® odor control utilizes Silver Chloride to inhibit the growth of odor-causing bacteria and fungi. As a result, this keeps your jersey as fresh wash after wash.

FLY Racing – Warpath Shorts

Complete your Fly performance outfit with the Warpath Shorts. An extremely lightweight short, the Warpath features a breathable stretch construction for total comfort in all conditions. Zippers are located on every last pocket, ensuring that you don’t lose any valuables no matter how rough the terrain might get. A quick snap front closure and Velcro waist closure grant the ability to make on-the-go adjustments. Really lean into those turns without looking like a plumber, thanks to an added rear stretch panel on the back of the shorts. Mesh panels on the back of the leg allow for optimal heat ventilation. A Pro Chamois is also included, making these some of the best shorts to wear if you’re worried about sweat.
