EVS Sports Motocross Protection: TP199 Knee Shin Guards, Slayco96 Knee Pads, Shoulder Braces, Chest Protectors, Neck Collars & Youth Protection | BTO Sports

The Guard Behind
 Every Ride

EVS Sports was founded in 1985 by two riders who could not find motocross-specific knee protection worth trusting, so they built their own. Their AMX-5 became the first dedicated MX knee brace, and the company has been developing protection for off-road riders for 40 years since. Today the lineup spans knee and shin guards, knee braces, shoulder braces, chest protectors, and neck collars for riders at every level. At BTO Sports, we carry the full EVS protection lineup for adults and youth.

Why we like EVS

The TP199 Knee and Shin Guard is the EVS product we sell most, and for good reason: it is a full hard-shell knee and shin combo that covers real surface area, fits securely without restricting movement, and comes in at a price most riders can justify without thinking twice. The Slayco96 is our second most popular EVS item, a softer knee pad with strong impact absorption that riders reach for when they want protection without the bulk of a hard guard. Those two products tell you what EVS does best: practical, wearable protection that actually stays on during a ride. EVS also makes the SB03 shoulder brace, which is one of the few shoulder protection options in the market and fills a gap most brands ignore completely. Add in roost deflectors, neck collars, and a solid youth line, and EVS covers more of the body than any other value-tier protection brand we carry. Travis Pastrana has had a handshake deal with EVS since the late 1990s, which is worth noting.

FAQ

  • The TP199 is a full hard-shell knee and shin combo guard with a rigid outer cap and extended shin coverage that protects from the knee down. It is designed for riders who want maximum coverage from roost, rocks, and ground contact. The Slayco96 is a knee pad focused specifically on the knee joint with softer impact-absorbing construction and a lower-profile fit. Riders who find hard shin guards restrictive or uncomfortable often prefer the Slayco96 for trail riding or longer sessions where all-day comfort matters more than full hard-shell coverage.

  • EVS guards are sized by leg circumference measured at the middle of the kneecap with the leg straight. The TP199 comes in multiple sizes and fits a wide range of adult legs with an adjustable strap system that keeps it from sliding during riding. The Slayco96 uses a sleeve-style compression fit and should be sized to your circumference measurement rather than your apparel size. Youth versions of the TP199 are available for smaller riders. We recommend measuring before ordering if you are between sizes.

  • Yes, and it is one of the things that separates EVS from most other protection brands. The SB03 Shoulder Brace provides support and protection for the shoulder joint, which is one of the most commonly injured areas in motocross crashes. Very few brands offer a standalone shoulder brace for off-road riding, and riders who have previously injured a shoulder or who ride in higher-risk situations appreciate having this option. The SB05 is also available for riders who need additional support. Both braces are designed to be worn under or over a jersey depending on preference.

  • EVS covers a broader range of protection styles than most competitors in their price tier. For hard-shell knee and shin coverage, the TP199 is competitive with similar guards from Leatt or Fox at a lower price point. For soft knee pads, the Slayco96 competes well against entry-level options from Pod or Alpinestars. Where EVS stands out is in the combination of coverage options, competitive pricing, and the shoulder brace category that most competitors do not address at all. Riders who want a full-body protection kit from one brand without paying premium prices across every piece will find EVS one of the most complete options available.

  • Yes. EVS makes youth versions of several key products including the TP199 Youth Knee/Shin Guard, the Option Youth Knee Pad and Elbow Pad, and the R2 and R3 Youth Race Collar for neck protection. The youth lineup follows the same protection philosophy as the adult line and is purpose-sized for younger riders rather than just scaled-down adult versions. For families building a complete protection kit for a junior rider, EVS covers the major impact zones at prices that make sense for gear that will be outgrown.

  • The Fusion Sock is a compression sleeve designed to be worn under knee braces or guards to reduce friction and improve all-day comfort. It helps prevent the brace or guard from rubbing directly on skin, which reduces chafing during longer sessions. Riders who wear EVS knee guards or braces for extended periods find the Fusion Sock or Brace Sleeve makes a noticeable difference in comfort, particularly in hot weather. They are inexpensive accessories and worth adding to any knee guard or brace order.

  •  Yes. EVS makes the Axis Sport and Web Eclipse rigid knee braces for riders who want full hinged brace protection rather than a guard. Rigid braces provide more structured lateral support and extension control than hard-shell guards and are designed for riders with prior knee injuries or those who want the most comprehensive joint protection. The tradeoff is more bulk and a higher price compared to the TP199 or Slayco96. For most trail and recreational riders, the TP199 provides excellent protection without the added complexity of a hinged brace.

  • EVS makes the Revo 4 Roost Deflector, the F2 Modular Roost Protector, and the F1 Roost Protector at different price and coverage levels. The Revo 4 is the most popular option and provides solid chest and stomach coverage from roost and debris. The F2 is a modular design that can be configured for different coverage preferences. A youth Bantam Roost Deflector is available for younger riders. All EVS chest protection is designed to be worn over the jersey and integrates well with their neck collar lineup for riders building out a full upper-body protection setup.
