Head-to-Toe Protection
Lab Tested
Leatt was founded by Dr. Chris Leatt, a neurosurgeon who witnessed the death of a fellow rider and set out to build protective gear that didn't exist yet. The first Leatt neck brace was sold in 2004, and independent data has since shown it can reduce cervical spine injuries by up to 89%. Today Leatt covers riders head to toe with neck braces, helmets, boots, knee braces, body armor, goggles, jerseys, pants, and a full youth lineup. At BTO Sports, we carry the complete Leatt moto collection.

Why we like Leatt
Leatt is one of the only brands in motocross that was literally built by a doctor to solve a safety problem. That medical and engineering background shows up in everything they make. Their neck braces remain the industry standard, backed by independent crash data that no other brand can match. But what impressed us is how they've expanded beyond braces into a legitimate full-gear brand without losing that protection-first DNA. The 9.5 Carbon helmet kit, 5.5 boots, and X-Frame knee braces all carry that same research-driven approach. Their 360-degree Turbine Technology in helmets and 3DF impact foam in body armor aren't marketing buzzwords, they're tested in their own lab in Cape Town. Leatt also offers one of the better youth protection lineups, including the Fusion vest that combines neck and upper body protection in one piece. Pricing sits mid-to-premium, but you're paying for gear that was designed by people who take crash science seriously.
FAQ
-
Yes. An independent ten-year study by Great Lakes EMS (Action Sports EMS) found that wearing a motocross neck brace can reduce cervical spine injuries by up to 89%. The same study showed collarbone fractures were 45% more likely without a neck brace. Leatt neck braces use Alternative Load Path Technology to redirect crash forces away from the neck and disperse them across the shoulders and chest.
-
The number reflects the tier. The 6.5 is the flagship, made from carbon fiber with three-way adjustability and the lightest weight. The 5.5 uses composite polyamide with the same three-way adjustability at a lower price. The 4.5 offers two-way adjustability in a composite build. The 3.5 is the entry-level option with a fixed fit. All four use the same core protection technology, so the main differences are weight, materials, and how much you can customize the fit.
-
Leatt neck braces are sized by chest circumference, measured around the fullest part of your chest just under your arms. Small fits roughly 28-32 inches, Medium 32-36 inches, and Large/XL 36 inches and up. Proper sizing ensures the brace sits correctly on your shoulders and collarbone. The 6.5, 5.5, and 4.5 models have adjustable fit systems that help dial in the position once you have the right base size.
-
Yes. Leatt entered the helmet market in 2015 and now offers a full moto lineup. The 9.5 is their flagship carbon helmet featuring 360-degree Turbine Technology for rotational impact protection. The 8.5 is a composite alternative, and the 7.5 and 3.5 round out the lineup at more accessible price points. All Leatt moto helmets are designed to work seamlessly with their neck braces.
-
Yes. The 5.5 FlexLock is their top moto boot, featuring FlexLock Technology designed to protect the ankle and knee joints from impact forces and twists. It's a solid mid-to-high range boot that pairs well with their knee braces and body armor. Leatt also offers boots in their adventure and MTB lines.
-
Yes. Leatt's moto apparel lineup has grown significantly. The 5.5 is their top-tier race gear featuring ultra-light construction, 360-degree stretch race fit, and aerodynamic seamless panels. The 4.5 is their mid-range line with Twisted Yarn Technology for improved flexibility and abrasion resistance. Both are available for men, women, and youth. The gear is also PFAS-free and ships in plastic-free recyclable packaging.
-
Yes. Leatt offers youth-specific neck braces, helmets, body armor, knee guards, and apparel. The Fusion Junior vest combines neck and upper body protection in a single piece designed specifically for younger riders. Their youth neck braces and protection use the same core technology as the adult models.

Both are respected neck brace brands with different design philosophies. Leatt uses a more rigid structure with Alternative Load Path Technology and has the most independent crash data supporting its effectiveness. Atlas uses a flexible split-frame design that prioritizes mobility and comfort. Some riders prefer the locked-in feel of a Leatt, others prefer the range of motion from an Atlas. Both are solid choices, and we carry both at BTO Sports.
