Do My Children Really Need Kids Bike Helmets?

Yes. In many areas kids bike helmets are the law, and reputable BMX groups won't allow kids to ride without them. Medical research proves that youth BMX helmets can prevent most head injuries despite the many crashes that are inherent to the sport. A brain injury can kill your child, and if it doesn't it can cause lasting problems, including: aggressiveness, balance problems, concentration difficulties, learning disabilities, headaches, and even permanent personality changes. All About Kids Bike Helmets All BTO Sports kids bike helmets meet the US Consumer Product Safety Commission CPSC standard. Look for the sticker inside each of our youth BMX helmets and kids bike helmets for your peace of mind. These standards have everything to do with safety and nothing to do with fit! To ensure the right fit, help your child try the helmet on or take careful measurements. And don't forget, we are here to help! Remember that the type of riding your child does determines which kind of helmet is right for them. Regular biking, downhill mountain biking, and BMX biking all require different kinds of helmets. For BMX cycling, use a youth BMX helmet. These youth BMX helmets are subject to not only CPSC standards, but also the American Society of the International Association for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F2032. For downhill mountain biking use a downhill helmet which is subject to CPSC standards and ASTM F1952. For regular biking or mountain biking without any inclines or downhill riding, typical kids bike helmets are fine. Remember, anytime your child crashes in any kids bike helmet, replace it, because impact crushes some of the helmet's foam even when you can't see the damage. Replace the buckle if any piece of it breaks off or if it cracks.
